I got asked to try building this on one of my videos, well just the snow mobile, figured I'd use the flex AR I made a while back as the base chassis.

There's not much yet, but here's the initial full mock unit of what I intend to do for the snow mobile ski.
I want to use frp part 15472 instead of these however.
Also thinking of extending the width of the ski on the front end to increase the surface area of where the snow would meet ski.

So here's the idea for the snowmobile. I want to use the fully cowled frp for the front skids with a half another for extending the width of the front of the skids. I also want to do a pair of tracks at the rear (making a single track like the Akira mod seems like a pain) with a simple frame and simple shock. I've also tried to show the movement expected from the skids/tracks, this is in addition to the flex chassis movements.

Finally got the parts and started to make the skis. I've almost finished the right side ski, just need to clean it and trim the plasticard neater.

    Edit: Quick update....

I finished cleaning it up and gave it a test fit and tried to have a look at the mechanism that will rotate the ski. It doesn't fit properly yet since I haven't worked on that part, but I did try to make a demo of how it's meant to work.

That's an ingenious design for the skis, Drew: top work - love it.

Thanks David, it's slowly coming together.

Another update, finished the second ski, trimmed the chassis to take the ski setup. Assembled the front end and gave it a quick try.

Trying to figure out how to do the tracks. It's difficult because you need to keep them tight enough not to come off but loose enough to run. I couldn't really find a way with the single long track section that would give me the ground traction I wanted and was also tight, so I added a single small section, but then it becomes far too large.

So this is the method I'm going with, it's loose enough to run well and tight enough to not come loose, it also gives me the amount of tread on the floor I was looking for.
Will need to work out how to attach a suspension unit to it.

Xmas is here and I was just taking a couple images off here to post on FB about the snow mobile....or sleigh, and I just realised I never posted how I finished the rear setup. So here's a couple images, it's not much but I've added a couple shafts and springs as well as added a popsicle brace.
